EAR PINNING (Otoplasty) In some people, the ears may project too far from the side of the head. This procedure is designed to position the ears closer to the side of the head. It is performed through an incision behind the ear so that there is no visible scar. It can be done under a local or general anesthetic. A head dressing that covers the ears is worn for one week, and the patient is able to return to work after one week. The surgery can either be performed at St. Joseph’s Health Centre or at a private clinic that specializes in cosmetic surgery. Dr. Levine meets with each patient personally for an in-depth consultation at which time the procedure is discussed in detail. The possible complications and postoperative recovery is explained. Dr. Levine makes every attempt to ensure that each patient has realistic expectations and is a good candidate for the surgery. As each patient's problem is unique, the surgery is customized to achieve the desired result. Alternative procedures are discussed if indicated.
