CHIN ENHANCEMENT (Mentoplasty)

  This procedure is designed to enhance a weak chin, resulting in a more prominent and defined chin. A small incision inside the mouth or under the chin is made for insertion of a chin implant. The implants are made from various materials and come in various sizes and shapes. The nature of the deformity and the desired result will determine the type of implant that is used.

  The procedure can be done under a local or general anesthetic. It can be done alone or in conjunction with other facial cosmetic surgeries. The chin area is taped for one week, and some mild bruising and swelling can be expected for one week. Patients are able to return to work after one week. The surgery can either be performed at St. Joseph’s Health Centre or at a private clinic that specializes in cosmetic surgery.

  Dr. Levine meets with each patient personally for an in-depth consultation at which time the procedure is discussed in detail. The possible complications and postoperative recovery is explained. Dr. Levine makes every attempt to ensure that each patient has realistic expectations and is a good candidate for the surgery. The various implants that are available are discussed. Dr. Levine will ensure that the patient fully understands all the options and will recommend the implant best suited for the patient. As each patient is unique, the surgery is customized to achieve the desired result. Alternative procedures are discussed if indicated.
