BROW / FOREHEAD LIFT

  With aging, the brow and forehead region often droop downwards causing wrinkles and frown lines. This can give the face a tired and sometimes angry appearance. A brow lift is designed to move the brow area upwards to achieve a more youthful appearance for the face. It can also treat frown lines and wrinkles that occur at the junction between the nose and forehead. The procedure can be done in conjunction with a blepharoplasty (eyelid rejuvenation) and a face lift to achieve a uniform youthful appearance for the entire face.

  Dr. Levine uses two techniques for the brow lift. The first is an open technique where an incision is made across the top of the scalp, beginning above the ears and hidden in the hair line. The second technique utilizes the endoscope. Small incisions about an inch long are made in the scalp for insertion of the endoscope. All the incisions are hidden in the scalp. The technique used depends on the extent of the deformity and is discussed with the patient at the time of consultation.

  Depending on the extent of the treatment required, the procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia. There are no postoperative bandages. Some bruising and swelling can be expected for one to two weeks. The patient can go home the same day and can usually return to work in one week. The surgery can be performed at St. Joseph’s Health Centre or at a private clinic that specializes in cosmetic surgery.

  Dr. Levine meets with each patient personally for an in-depth consultation at which time the procedure is discussed in detail. The possible complications and postoperative recovery is explained. Dr. Levine makes every attempt to ensure that each patient has realistic expectations and is a good candidate for the surgery. As each patient’s problem is unique, the surgery is customized to achieve the desired result. Alternative procedures are discussed if indicated.
