BREAST LIFT (Mastoplexy)

  This procedure is designed to lift and reshape the sagging breast. The breasts may sag as a result of aging, following weight loss, or following pregnancies with or without breastfeeding. A breast implant can be inserted at the same time as a breast lift if the breast has also lost volume.

  At the time of the surgery, the nipple is moved to a higher position by tightening and removing the excess skin of the breast. If a mild lift is indicated, the procedure can be done through a scar around the nipple. If a more extensive lift is required, there will be a scar around the nipple, a vertical scar extending from the nipple downwards over the breast, and sometimes in the lower crease of the breast. The surgery is performed under a general anesthetic and the patient can go home the same day. There is some bruising and swelling for two weeks and most patients can return to work after one week. The surgery can either be performed at St. Joseph’s Health Centre or at a private clinic that specializes in cosmetic surgery.

  Dr. Levine meets with each patient personally for an in-depth consultation at which time the procedure is discussed in detail. The possible complications and postoperative recovery is explained. Dr. Levine makes every attempt to ensure that each patient has realistic expectations and is a good candidate for the surgery. As each patient’s problem is unique, the surgery is customized to achieve the desired result. Alternative procedures are discussed if indicated.
